The Patient Care Technician Program at MCTI prepares a graduate to work as an entry-level Patient Care Technician in a clinic, hospital, nursing home or long-term care facility. Graduates will be able to check vital signs, CPR and First Aid, assist in medical examinations, performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), basic laboratory procedures, and phlebotomy. This program is taught with a combination of lecture, practical exercises in the medical laboratory and with real-world experience during the externship portion of training conducted off-campus at medical facilities. You will also be eligible to take exams to become a CNA Certified Nurse Assistant

Patient Care Technicians (PCT) care for injured, physically and mentally ill, disabled or infirm patients in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living, physicians’ offices or long-term care facilities. They perform routine tasks under the supervision of doctors, nurses and other medical professionals in monitoring the patient’s condition and providing basic patient care. The PCT plays a vital role in the healthcare delivery team since they often have more direct patient contact than any other team member including doctors and nurses.

What Does a Patient Care Technician Do?
As a Patient Care Technician some of your duties may include:
Responding to patient calls and requests for assistance
Bathing, dressing, grooming and assisting with personal hygiene
Serving meals and feeding patients if they are unable to feed themselves
Monitoring and recording vital signs - temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates
Observing, recording and reporting a patients’ physical, mental, and emotional condition
Electrocardiograms (EKGs), collecting blood (phlebotomy) and other clinical tasks
Moving patients, transferring patents to and from a bed or wheelchair and assisting with walking
Making beds and keeping patient rooms clean and neat
Setting up and operating therapeutic equipment and supplies
Assisting doctors and nurses during examinations and treatments

Where do Patient Care Technicians Work?
You will have the skills necessary to gain employment in a variety of healthcare environments. Principally job opportunities will be prevalent in hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, nursing and assisted living facilities.

About the PCT Program
The Patient Care Technician Program is a 5 week course. The program will combine classroom lecture, practical hands-on experience in an actual medical facility. 

Upon successful completion of this Review-based program, students may be eligible to take State and/or National certification exams in Phlebotomy, Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician, and/or Patient Care Technician (ON-SITE).

Students will receive a PCT Study Guide that will guide them towards successfully mastering the exam. 

2 Days a week / 8 hour week 

Review is for 5 weeks/ 40 hours of clinicals at Urgent Care Center
